The Enbridge Gas Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+) program in Ontario has introduced several updates and enhancements, integrating the Canada Greener Homes Grant to provide a more streamlined and comprehensive offering for homeowners seeking to improve their home’s energy efficiency.
Key Updates:
1. Combined Rebates: The HER+ program now offers combined rebates from Enbridge Gas and the Canada Greener Homes Grant, with eligible homeowners able to receive up to $10,000 for home energy retrofits. This includes up to $5,000 from each program towards improvements like insulation, windows, doors, and renewable energy systems.
2. Expanded Eligibility: The program is now open to all eligible Ontarians regardless of their heating fuel type, simplifying access to energy efficiency incentives. This change broadens the scope to include a wider range of homeowners.
3. EnerGuide Home Evaluations: To qualify for the rebates, homeowners must complete both a pre-retrofit and a post-retrofit EnerGuide home energy evaluation. These evaluations must be conducted by a Registered Energy Advisor licensed by Natural Resources Canada. The deadline for the pre-retrofit evaluation is February 5, 2024, and the post-retrofit evaluation must be completed by March 31, 2026, or earlier if funds are exhausted.
4. Cost Offset for Evaluations: Homeowners can receive a rebate of up to $600 to offset the cost of their EnerGuide home assessments.
5. Single Window Access: The program now offers a single window for accessing both the Enbridge rebates and the Canada Greener Homes Grant, streamlining the application process and making it easier for homeowners to apply for and receive the incentives.
These updates aim to simplify the process for homeowners and encourage more energy-efficient upgrades across Ontario, contributing to the province’s and Canada’s climate action goals.
