Ductless Heat Pump Protection Plan — Repair Coverage You Can Count On
A ductless heat pump is a significant investment in your home's comfort and energy efficiency. When something goes wrong — a failed compressor, a refrigerant leak, a faulty control board — the repair bill can be substantial. A Constant Home Comfort protection plan gives you financial peace of mind by covering the cost of parts and labour for covered repairs, with 24/7 emergency service access and the assurance that a certified technician is always just one call away. Think of it as an extended warranty that actually delivers — with no fine print designed to deny your claim, no call centres that put you on hold for an hour, and no strangers who've never seen your system showing up to diagnose it. Just the same certified Constant Home Comfort technicians who know your system, your home, and your neighbourhood.
Protection Plan vs. Maintenance Plan — What's the Difference?

Customers often ask how a protection plan differs from a maintenance plan. They serve different but complementary purposes, and many homeowners choose both.

Maintenance Plan: Preventive care. Covers scheduled annual tune-ups, inspections, and cleaning to keep your system running efficiently and catch developing issues before they become breakdowns. Think of it as your system's annual physical.

Protection Plan: Repair coverage. Covers the cost of parts and labour when something breaks down unexpectedly. Think of it as insurance against repair bills — the financial safety net that kicks in when prevention wasn't enough.

A maintenance plan reduces the likelihood of needing repairs. A protection plan covers you when repairs are needed anyway. Together, they provide comprehensive coverage that keeps your system running and your budget predictable.

What a Constant Home Comfort Protection Plan Covers

Our protection plan is designed to cover the components that matter most — the ones that are expensive to repair or replace and that cause the most disruption when they fail. Coverage includes:

Major Mechanical Components

  • Compressor: The heart of your heat pump system and typically the most expensive component to replace. Compressor failure is one of the most significant repair events a heat pump owner can face, with parts and labour costs that can reach several thousand dollars. Full coverage under the protection plan means this cost falls on us, not you.
  • Reversing valve: The reversing valve controls whether your system is in heating or cooling mode. A failed reversing valve can leave your system locked in one mode or non-functional entirely. Covered in full.
  • Expansion valve: Controls refrigerant flow and is essential to the system's efficiency and capacity. Failure leads to poor heating or cooling performance. Covered.
  • Fan motors: Both the indoor blower motor and the outdoor condenser fan motor are covered. Fan motor failure leads to reduced airflow, icing, or complete system shutdown depending on which unit is affected.

Electrical and Control Components

  • Control board: The brain of the system. Control board failures cause a wide range of symptoms — from failure to start to erratic operation to error codes that won't clear. Replacement boards are model-specific and can be costly. Covered.
  • Capacitors and contactors: Common wear items in the outdoor unit that are responsible for starting the compressor and fan motors. When they fail, the system won't run. Covered.
  • Thermistors and sensors: Temperature sensors throughout the system provide the data the control board uses to regulate operation. Faulty sensors cause inaccurate temperature control and error codes. Covered.
  • Electrical wiring and connections (internal): Internal wiring failures, loose terminal connections, and related electrical faults within the indoor and outdoor units are covered.

Refrigerant System Components

  • Refrigerant leak detection and repair: If a refrigerant leak is causing your system to underperform or fail, we locate the source, repair the leak, and recharge the system to manufacturer specifications. Note: refrigerant recharge is covered as part of a qualifying repair — not as a standalone top-up for systems with ongoing unresolved leaks.
  • Refrigerant line fittings and connections: Fittings, flare connections, and line set connections that develop leaks are covered for repair.

Service and Labour

  • All covered repair labour: Parts are only half the cost of most repairs. Labour — including diagnosis time, disassembly, component replacement, system testing, and reassembly — is covered in full for all qualifying repairs.
  • 24/7 emergency service calls: Protection plan members receive 24/7 emergency dispatch coverage. Whether your system fails at 2 a.m. on a January night or on a holiday weekend in July, we'll send a technician to you.
  • Diagnostic service calls: The cost of the service call itself — including travel time and initial diagnosis — is covered for protection plan members. Pay-per-call customers are charged a service call fee before any repairs begin.
What Is Not Covered

We believe in full transparency about coverage limits. The following are not included under the protection plan:

  • Consumable items: Filters, batteries for remote controls, and other items intended for regular homeowner replacement are not covered, as these are part of routine homeowner maintenance.
  • Damage from external causes: Physical damage from accidents, floods, fire, lightning strikes, power surges, pest infestations, or improper use is not covered under the protection plan. We recommend ensuring your home insurance policy addresses these scenarios.
  • Pre-existing conditions: Issues that are present and known at the time of plan enrollment are not covered. Our technicians conduct an enrollment inspection to document the system's condition at the start of coverage.
  • Cosmetic damage: Scratches, dents, faded panels, or other cosmetic issues that do not affect the system's function are not covered.
  • Ductwork or structural modifications: If your installation requires structural changes — such as relocating the indoor unit or extending line sets — these costs are not included in the protection plan.
  • Systems beyond serviceable condition: Systems that are determined upon inspection to be beyond cost-effective repair may not be eligible for enrollment. In these cases, we'll provide an honest assessment and a replacement quote.
How the Protection Plan Works

Enrollment

Enrolling is simple. Contact us to schedule an enrollment inspection — a brief visit in which one of our certified technicians assesses your system's current condition, documents its age, model, and state of repair, and confirms it is eligible for coverage. Most systems in good working order qualify. The inspection typically takes less than an hour.

When Something Goes Wrong

If your system breaks down or you notice a performance issue, call us at 1 (888) 675-5907 — any time of day or night. Describe what you're experiencing and we'll dispatch a technician. Protection plan members are prioritized in our dispatch queue, meaning faster response times, especially during peak demand periods in winter and summer.

The Repair Visit

Our technician will diagnose the issue, confirm coverage under your plan, and proceed with the repair. For covered repairs, there is no charge for parts, labour, or the service call. If the repair involves a component or cause that falls outside your coverage, we'll explain clearly what is and isn't covered before any out-of-pocket work begins — you always have the choice to proceed or not.

Documentation

Every repair visit is documented in your account. This record serves as proof of professional service history, which can be relevant if a manufacturer warranty claim is ever involved, or when you eventually sell your home and want to demonstrate that the system has been properly cared for.

Why a Protection Plan Makes Financial Sense

Ductless heat pump repairs aren't cheap. Here's a realistic look at what common repairs cost without coverage:

  • Compressor replacement: $1,500 to $3,000+ including parts and labour, depending on the brand and model.
  • Control board replacement: $500 to $1,200 including parts and labour.
  • Refrigerant leak repair and recharge: $400 to $900 depending on the severity of the leak and the amount of refrigerant required.
  • Fan motor replacement: $350 to $700 including parts and labour.
  • Reversing valve replacement: $600 to $1,100 including parts and labour.
  • After-hours or emergency service call fee (without a plan): $150 to $250 before any diagnostic or repair work begins.

A single compressor replacement — one of the more common major repairs on a system that's been running for several years — can cost more than several years of protection plan premiums. For most homeowners, the protection plan pays for itself the first time a significant repair is needed.

Beyond the direct cost savings, consider the value of predictability. A protection plan converts unpredictable, potentially large repair expenses into a fixed, manageable annual cost. For household budgeting purposes, knowing your heat pump repair costs are covered is worth something on its own.

Protection Plans for All Major Brands

Constant Home Comfort offers protection plans for ductless heat pump systems from all major brands, regardless of who originally installed the equipment. Covered brands include:

  • Lennox
  • Daikin
  • Bosch
  • GREE
  • American Standard
  • Mitsubishi
  • Fujitsu
  • LG
  • Samsung
  • Carrier
  • And most other residential mini-split brands

If you're unsure whether your brand or model is eligible, call us and we'll confirm during the enrollment inquiry.

Pairing Your Protection Plan With a Maintenance Plan

The most comprehensive coverage comes from combining a protection plan with an annual maintenance plan. Here's why they work so well together:

  • The maintenance plan catches developing issues early — often before they cause a breakdown at all
  • Regular maintenance keeps the system operating at peak efficiency, reducing strain on components and extending their working life
  • Documented maintenance visits satisfy manufacturer warranty conditions, protecting any remaining factory coverage
  • The protection plan covers you for the breakdowns that happen despite best maintenance practices — because no system is completely immune to wear and component failure over time
  • Combined, the two plans give you full-circle coverage: prevention on the front end, repair protection on the back end

Many Constant Home Comfort customers enrol in both plans at the same time — often at the point of installation — for comprehensive, worry-free coverage from day one. Ask about combined plan pricing when you call.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enrol in a protection plan if I didn't buy my system from Constant Home Comfort?

Yes. We offer protection plans for ductless heat pump systems from all major brands, regardless of who supplied or installed the equipment. The only requirement is that the system passes our enrollment inspection confirming it is in good working condition and eligible for coverage.

Is there a waiting period before coverage begins?

Coverage begins after the enrollment inspection is completed and your plan is activated. There is no extended waiting period. For systems installed by Constant Home Comfort, coverage can often be activated at the time of installation.

What happens if my system can't be repaired and needs to be replaced?

If a covered component fails and the repair is not feasible — for example, a compressor failure on an older system where parts are no longer available — we will provide a full assessment of the situation and a competitive replacement quote. Protection plan members receive preferred pricing on replacement systems and installation. The specific terms for non-repairable systems are outlined in your plan agreement.

Does the protection plan cover both the indoor and outdoor units?

Yes. Coverage applies to the complete ductless heat pump system — both the indoor air handler and the outdoor compressor unit — as well as the refrigerant line connections between them.

Can I transfer the protection plan if I sell my home?

Yes. Protection plans are transferable to a new homeowner, which can be a meaningful selling feature when listing your property. A transferable protection plan demonstrates to buyers that the equipment is covered and has been professionally maintained, adding confidence and value to the transaction. Contact us to arrange the transfer when your home changes hands.

Does having a protection plan affect my manufacturer warranty?

No — a Constant Home Comfort protection plan works alongside your manufacturer warranty, not in place of it. During the manufacturer warranty period, applicable repairs will be processed through the warranty where possible. The protection plan provides additional coverage for items or situations not covered by the manufacturer warranty, and extends your repair coverage beyond the warranty term.
