How to Make Sure Your Furnace is in Tip-Top Shape For The Fall!
It’s official. Summer is on its way out the door, and colder weather will be here before we know it. When that happens, a mug of hot chocolate won’t be enough to stave off the cold, you’ll also need to make sure that your HVAC system is ready to take on the challenges ahead.
If you realize, too late, that your furnace isn’t at it’s best, you’ll have to put with up with temperature fluctuations and a lot of discomfort during the ensuing downtime and service call. The solution? A stitch in time saves nine!
The following tips aside, it’s also smart to call in a professional every now and then. At Constant, we offer expert furnace installation services for your Keeprite AC in Markham. Our skilled technicians can also administer furnace maintenance for your Lennox unit.
Without further ado, let’s run through a checklist of the preventative measures you can take to ensure your furnace is in proper working order.
Check on Your Thermostat
Change the setting from cooling to heating and ensure that the thermostat is programmed to a temperature higher than the room temperature. If you don’t hear that signature sound of the heat kicking in, remove the cover and make sure the wire connections are intact. It’s important to only do this if you are comfortable and familiar with the apparatus. If not, we advise calling in a professional.
If the connections seem fine, ensure that the power source to your furnace is on. You could also double-check the heat pump, blower and fan, but, by this point, it’s safer to call in a trusted and experienced technician as they will be able to identify the problem within minutes, with little to no guesswork.
Replace the Air Filters
The air filters probably live in a duct in the ceiling or wall. These will have to be changed every couple of months. If, on the other hand, you use a permanent electrostatic filter, extract, wash and reuse it.
Moreover, check on your humidifier filter and replace that if necessary. When you administer these basic care tips, you’re giving your HVAC system a long life, meaning no expensive replacements every couple of years!
Clean and Lubricate the Blower Motor
Before taking any chances, double-check the owner’s manual to see if the motor is the kind that can be safely lubricated. If it is, turn off the power, open and clean the caps covering the bearings, remove the caps and lubricate the bearings.
We cannot stress enough, when in doubt, do not experiment, always call in an expert and save yourself a world of trouble!
Call in the Professionals
It’s always better to have a technician come look at the furnace just to make sure there are no leaks or broken parts that will silently rake up significant bills for you later on.
