Ventilator Protection Plan Ontario | HRV & ERV Breakdown Coverage
Your HRV or ERV works hard every single day — and like any mechanical system, it can break down unexpectedly. A failed motor, a damaged heat-exchange core, a faulty control board — repair bills can add up quickly, and they never arrive at a convenient time. A Constant Home Comfort Ventilator Protection Plan is designed to eliminate that financial uncertainty. Unlike a maintenance plan — which is focused on scheduled preventive service — a protection plan is breakdown coverage. It steps in when something goes wrong, covering the cost of parts and labour so you're never caught off guard by an unexpected repair bill. Think of it as an extended warranty, backed by Ontario's most responsive HVAC service team. Protect your ventilator today: 1 (888) 675-5907 | Available 24/7
Protection Plan vs. Maintenance Plan: What's the Difference?

Many homeowners ask how a protection plan differs from a maintenance plan. They work very differently and serve different purposes — though they complement each other well when combined.

For maximum coverage — and the lowest total cost of ownership over the life of your ventilator — we recommend pairing a protection plan with an annual maintenance plan. Together, they cover everything: scheduled upkeep and unexpected breakdowns.

What Does the Ventilator Protection Plan Cover?

Our protection plan covers the components most likely to fail on an HRV or ERV over its operational lifespan. When a covered component breaks down, we dispatch a certified technician, diagnose the issue, and complete the repair — parts and labour — at no additional charge to you.

* Full coverage terms and component list provided at enrollment. Some exclusions apply — see What's Not Covered below.

What's Not Covered

We believe in full transparency. Here is what a protection plan does not cover, so there are no surprises:

  • Routine consumables. Filters, filter replacement pads, and other items designed to be replaced regularly are not included. These are covered in our maintenance plan.
  • The heat-exchange core (unless damaged by a covered failure). Core degradation due to age or mineral build-up is considered wear and is not covered. However, if a covered failure (such as a motor failure) causes physical damage to the core, that damage is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Damage caused by neglect or improper installation. Failures resulting from lack of filter cleaning, blocked exterior hoods, or improper original installation are not eligible for coverage.
  • Cosmetic damage. Dents, scratches, or exterior casing damage that does not affect unit operation.
  • Pre-existing conditions. Issues identified at the time of enrollment that exist before the plan takes effect are not covered retroactively.
  • Ductwork. Supply and exhaust ductwork connected to the ventilator is not covered under the protection plan.

If you're unsure whether a specific issue is covered, call us at 1 (888) 675-5907. We'll give you a straight answer before we dispatch anyone.

The Real Cost of Ventilator Repairs Without Coverage

To understand the value of a protection plan, it helps to know what common HRV and ERV repairs actually cost when paid out of pocket. These are typical Ontario repair costs in 2026:

* Costs are estimates and vary by unit make, model, and accessibility. Parts costs fluctuate with supply and availability.

A single motor replacement without coverage can cost $350 to $600 — easily more than an entire year of protection plan coverage. A control board failure on top of that, and you're looking at over $1,000 in out-of-pocket costs from just two repairs. The math on coverage pays off quickly.

How to Enroll in a Ventilator Protection Plan

Getting coverage set up is simple and can be done over the phone or in person during a service visit. Here's how the process works:

  • Call us at 1 (888) 675-5907. Let our team know you're interested in a protection plan. We'll ask about your unit — make, model, age, and condition — to confirm eligibility and recommend the right plan tier.
  • Initial condition assessment. For units we haven't previously serviced, we may recommend a brief inspection visit before coverage begins. This ensures any pre-existing issues are documented and that your plan starts from a clean baseline.
  • Plan enrollment and start date. Once enrolled, your coverage begins as of the agreed start date. You'll receive written confirmation of your plan terms, covered components, and contact information for 24/7 dispatch.
  • File a claim any time you need it. When something goes wrong, call us at 1 (888) 675-5907. Tell us your name and that you're a protection plan member. We'll dispatch a certified technician and handle the covered costs directly — no paperwork, no reimbursement claims.
Combine Your Protection Plan with a Maintenance Plan for Total Coverage

A protection plan and a maintenance plan work best together. The maintenance plan keeps your ventilator in top condition year-round, catching small issues before they become covered claims. The protection plan ensures that if something does break — unexpectedly, between visits — you're fully covered. Together, they represent complete peace of mind for your ventilator investment.

Ask about our bundled plan pricing when you call. Combining a maintenance and protection plan is almost always less expensive than purchasing them separately — and it gives you the most comprehensive coverage available for your ventilator.

Who Benefits Most from a Ventilator Protection Plan?

A protection plan makes the most sense for the following homeowners:

  • Homeowners with units 5 years or older. The manufacturer's warranty has expired or is approaching expiry, meaning any repair bills land entirely on you. A protection plan picks up where the warranty leaves off.
  • Homeowners on a fixed or predictable budget. A protection plan converts unpredictable repair expenses into a known, manageable annual cost — no surprise bills, no scrambling for funds in the middle of winter.
  • Homeowners who rely heavily on their ventilator for health reasons. Households with members who have allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions need their ventilator running reliably. Priority dispatch means faster repairs when it matters most.
  • Landlords and property managers. Protecting ventilation equipment across multiple units with a known annual cost simplifies budgeting and ensures tenant comfort is maintained without reactive spending.
  • Newly purchased or inherited older homes. When you move into a home with an existing ventilator and don't know its full service history, a protection plan provides an immediate safety net.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Ventilator Protection Plan

Can I get a protection plan if my ventilator is old?

Units 15 years or older may require a condition inspection before enrollment to assess overall reliability. If the unit has significant pre-existing issues, we may recommend replacement rather than coverage — and we'll be straightforward about it. In many cases, though, older units in reasonable condition are eligible and are exactly the type of equipment that benefits most from breakdown coverage.

Does a protection plan cover me if the unit fails completely and needs replacement?

A protection plan covers repairs to covered components up to the per-call limit. In the event that a unit is beyond economical repair — where repair costs would exceed the value of the equipment — we will advise you on replacement options and apply any available plan discount to your new installation quote. Complete unit replacement is not a covered benefit under the protection plan.

How quickly will a technician arrive when I file a claim?

Plan members receive priority dispatch over non-plan customers. In most areas of our service territory, we aim to have a technician on-site the same day for calls received during business hours, and within a few hours for true after-hours emergencies. Response times may vary during extreme weather events when call volume is elevated across the region.

What happens to my protection plan if I sell my home?

Your protection plan is transferable to the new homeowner for the remainder of the plan year at no additional charge — which can be a selling feature. Alternatively, you can cancel the plan at the time of sale with a prorated refund for any unused term. Contact us to discuss your options.

Is the protection plan the same as the manufacturer's warranty?

No — they are separate. The manufacturer's warranty (typically 5 years on Lennox Healthy Climate units) covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use conditions, and it's administered directly by the manufacturer. Our protection plan is offered and administered by Constant Home Comfort, covers a broader range of failure scenarios including normal wear, and includes 24/7 emergency labour. The two can coexist — if a repair is covered by both, we'll process the manufacturer warranty claim where applicable.

Does the protection plan require me to have a maintenance plan too?

No — a protection plan can be purchased independently. However, some coverage conditions (such as failures caused by neglect) may be assessed differently if there is no maintenance record. We strongly recommend pairing both plans, not only because it gives you the most complete coverage but because a well-maintained unit is less likely to experience the failures the protection plan is designed to cover.
